🌧️ Water, 🧊 freezing conditions, and 💨 wind are all potential #storm elements that could cause damage to commercial and residential property, regardless of the storm’s size or severity. The case study demonstrates the importance of having an expert assess claimed items, ensuring the #carrier settles only for equipment damaged by a covered loss.

https://www.txwarn.org Looks like another winter storm for Texas. The lows will be around 22 degrees even in Houston where I live. At this moment and through the weekend there will be thousands of public utility operators and engineers working on emergency preparations and contingencies to keep the power and water on. North Texas has already dipped below freezing. This may seem laughable to those up in the mountains where this is spring weather. However, most of our water infrastructure in Texas is outdoors. Yes, the electrical components and some critical equipment are in climate controlled buildings but the pumps, piping, equipment is mostly above ground and not inside buildings. If you need help as a public utility, small or large be sure and use the Texas Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network. This is a collection of agencies and utilities that share resources to recover from disasters. https://www.txwarn.org PS - I don't expect too many issues compared to a few years ago for power and water utilities as the chance of rain/snow is low. Dry cold is much more manageable than wet cold.

Last weekend an Artic blast pushed down across the North West. Significant freezing rain fell in the Willamette Valley and out to the coast. On Sunday, Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative, Inc. sent a crew to assist Consumers Power Inc. in the Corvallis area with restoration. The road conditions were so bad that it took the entire day for the CCEC crew just to reach their destination. Since the call for mutual aid from CPI, we received mutual aid requests from many other public utilities. In addition to the storm related outages, the extreme cold weather across the NW (Coos and Curry counties getting a bye on this one.) has driven loads up to winter peak levels. Combined with winter peak loads, low flows in the Columbia Basin has driven market power prices very high. Bonneville Power Administration is buying into that high-priced market to meet its load obligations. So far there has been sufficient generation available to meet loads. These are the kind of circ*mstances where the generation provided by the Lower Snake River Dams is absolutely critical to prevent blackouts. Wind and solar generation typically do not produce well during extreme weather events. This is why you sometimes hear that breaching the LSRD’s will result in blackouts. That is not an exaggeration.Thankfully we escaped this weather event and are able to send assistance to help our fellow coop’s in need.

This year’s spring storms were tougher than those that have hit North Texas in recent years. However, even if you didn't get huge hail pounding on your roof it doesn't mean smaller-sized hail and wind hasn't done real damage, especially if multiple storms hit your neighborhood. And with it being a HOT Texas summer, the extreme heat could further compromise your roof. If you need your roof inspected for unseen damage, give Dobson Contractors Inc./ Dobson Roofing a call today at 972-205-9415.#roofers #roofingcompany #roofingcontractor #roofingexperts #roofinspection #localroofingcontractor #roofing

Commercial property owners, it's essential to understand your policy inside out! Coverage levels can differ, from wind-only protection to broader "all-peril" coverage including wind, rain, storm surge, and debris. Knowing what's included ensures comprehensive protection for your property.

There have been a lot of #SevereWeather events this year. How does it stack up against recent years? Using preliminary data from the Storm Prediction Center (https://lnkd.in/guyyGGYV) we can see the number of high-wind reports through May 26 is well above average (red colors on bottom plot) across much of the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and along the Gulf Coast. With 6,069 high wind reports this year, 2024 is standing in 3rd place since 2010 (2011 and 2017 had more to date). Note, reports are aggregated at the county level and standardized by area.

On May 7, 2024, Michigan experienced a rare weather event: the state’sfirst tornado emergency, resulting in significant power outages. This historic weather episode included two EF-2 tornados with 135 mph winds in Kalamazoo and St. Joseph Counties, leading to extensive damage and power disruptions. Major Michigan utilities faced challenges but responded effectively. This tornadic event underscores the importance of resilient infrastructure and rapid response to severe weather in a state that has historically faced difficulty in containing power outages during extreme weather. StormImpact’s national power outage monitoring network captured the event in real time, and we’ve summarized our findings in this inaugural Power Outage Report.https://lnkd.in/gyutBHp4
